Das Vorhaben wurde fallen gelassen, da die Wärme der Glühlampe zu Verformungen führte. Der Prototyp wurde daher entwickelt und von Flos im Jahre 1962 mit der berühmten und beeindruckenden Schale aus geblasenem Glas hergestellt. Dank der Verwendung einer innovativen und hocheffizienten LED-Lichtquelle kann Flos Taccia heute in einer neuen Version mit Diffusor aus transparentem Kunststoff veröffentlichen, die der ursprünglichen Idee genau entspricht. In the Castiglioni brothers’ original design, the iconic bowl reflector was made of transparent plastic. This idea was discarded though because the heat emitted by the incandescent light source deformed the plastic material. The prototype was then developed and produced by Flos in 1962, with its famous big blown glass bowl. Thanks to the use of a cutting-edge LED light source is now possible to edit a new version of Taccia with a transparent plastic diffuser that is accurately faithful to the original concept. Originating from an ambitious Flos Bespoke project, the design of Luce Orizzontale distils the concept’s artisanal complexity: an interlocking, modular structure composed of tubular elements of thick glass, minimally suspended from the ceiling. For its 50th anniversary in 2021, Parentesi returns in two shades that pay tribute to its creators, curated in collaboration with Fondazione Achille Castiglioni and Fondazione Manzoni/Archive Pio Manzù. The new colours include a Turquoise inspired by the paint colour used by Castiglioni throughout his home (and carefully recorded by the architect in his studio), and the Orange Signal preferred by Manzù for many of his automotive prototypes and industrial design creations. The different components of Parentesi are compacted into a small, lightweight package, so transport costs are very low. The two authors, Manzù and Castiglioni, had not foreseen that this would also reduce the environmental impact: a light package reduces the fuel consumption necessary for transport. When we decided. to reintroduce the original packaging, transparent and with a handle, we asked to use completely recycled PET derived from the recovery cycle of waste materials such as plastic bottles. By its nature, PET is perfectly recyclable, so if you don’t want to keep the Achille Castiglionidesigned packaging, just throw the two shells in the recycling bin. Aber wenn man sie im Dunkeln einschaltet, verwandeln sie sich in wunderschön leuchtende Lampen. The new collection of lamps is made of blown glass modules, which are see-through and therefore almost inexistent at day-time. But, when you switch them on in the dark, they transform into georgeous, illuminated lamps. The cylindrical glass modules set the basic grammar of the collection.
